Oh, I'm so glad. I've been feeling sort of weirdly guilty for being so enthusiastic about this show when I know it doesn't really work for you (and before you say it, yes, I know that's completely illogical and ridiculous), and it's good to know that my babbling is making some sense in spite of that.
I actually hadn't thought of crossposting to the newsletter. ...I feel sort of weirdly shy about that, and don't know why. (Oh, I'm just tons of fun tonight. *eyeroll*)
Great analysis. I've been so focused on "your quaint little categories," that I hadn't thought so much about the "You people," side of the equation. I'm not sure how much to read into the use of "Gwen Cooper" or not. It's a very Doctor Who thing (from the little I've seen.) He called Rose "Rose Tyler" just before kissing her "goodbye" and I think the Ninth Doctor called her "Rose Tyler" a lot. Have you been downloading the podcasts from BBCA? I LOVE hearing JB's analysis of the character. (And the sound of his laughter has become a whole new fetish for me.)
Thank you! I don't know how much the addressing someone by their full name happens in Doctor Who as an overall trend, but I think it may happen, when it does, in two different ways. For Nine, it sort of goes along with his oddly exuberant demeanor and may be just a quirk. With Jack, it seems like it happens at more meaningful moments, like the goodbye kiss.
In particular, I think him addressing Gwen by her full name is important, given the context of the moment, and in the larger context of the episode. It ties in with the whole identity thing going on, with the need to name and define people. The team tries to name Jack; Owen refuses to name Gwen; Gwen gives Carys a name by providing the context of her life -- and the orgasm alien is very specifically never given a name, which just occurred to me. It has no identity.
I haven't been listening to the podcasts, but I'll have to check them out eventually!
The best thing about the podcasts is that when JB's gets all fanboyish about stuff and really intense you can hear a certain upward inflection in his voice. He doesn't slip into his Scottish accents but you can hear a shadow of it. And oh god, I love his laugh.

You really should be crossposting this to at least the Torchwood newsletter.
