Oh, beautiful! I can feel Danny here, his frustration and his love for his brother, and the hate at the same time, and Mac being there for him and helping to keep him stable. I love fics with/about Louie, too, so double bonus!

Thank you so much! Very glad you enjoyed this. I'm very interested in Danny's relationship with Louie, especially because it seems to have shaped so much of his outlook and his relationships, and it's such an ongoing struggle and source of tension for him. He can't let go of the past, but he can't let go of Louie, either. And all that frustration and hate gets tangled up in his relationship with Mac, too, and Mac just wants to do his best to be there for him -- but, of course, he's got his own issues. It's all such a wonderful mess.

Oh, yes. Yes. This is perfect as is, without bringing the other stuff into it. What we talked about last night really doesn't have a place in this piece. Both their frustrations and how much they care (with provokes the frustrations) it's all palpable.

You were so very right about all the stuff we talked about not having a place in this fic. And once we did talk, and I realized that, I was finally able to finish this. I couldn't have done it without you, so thank you again. I also ended up rather liking how this turned out, in general. All of the frustrations and the anger and the caring strike me as very emblematic of both the two of them as individuals and of their relationship as a whole.

This is so unresolved, I love it. It's so not-cathartic, to me. It's frustrating, because it's lacking closure. It's beautiful to read.

Thank you! That this remain unresolved seemed important to me for this fic, because it felt more believable for them, and more real. There's no real catharsis, because there's no real fix for this problem. All they can do it hang on, and try to draw some measure of comfort, however fleeting, while they can.
