Are my comments even worth anything anymore? They just repeat whatever the last one said.
Interesting to see the drowning imagery pop up.

And yeah, the drowning imagery struck me, too. I know I come back to the water themes again and again, but it seems particularly significant in this piece.

I do love the "drowning" hitches of breath and how it echoes in the pulse/blood imagery.
Stella looks up at them with half-lidded eyes, gasping, hips arching up off the mattress. Danny's hard-on is like steel against him, and he puts his free hand on Stella's thigh again. Beneath his palm, he thinks, that's the femoral artery.
A person can bleed out before you ever know it, there one minute and gone the next. Anyone can go away at any time, so quickly.
He shouldn't be thinking of these things now.
That is just brilliant and moves so smoothly.

I want to say "Oh, Mac" a lot, too. Or "Oh, honey." Which...actually, Mac triggers that reaction in me frequently. Go figure.
And you know my fixation on water imagery, but I really do like the way it works here, especially with the specifics of drowning, and now that you mention it, that also ties in nicely with the pulse and blood stuff -- the tides and rhythms of the body. Hmm.
