Enjoying talks is a good thing. I remember that for the first couple of years of going to seminars I didn't understand a damn thing. It felt like an big achievement when that stopped happening all the time.
Today I am proud of the fact that I have a working definition of "Bayesian priors." It might be the only thing I learned from Stats from Hell (otherwise known as the course that resulted in negative knowledge).
Of course, it helps that I'm no longer required to go... so I can be fairly secure in being just not very interested in corneal disease or diabetic retinopathy and skipping those weeks...
I definitely prefer revising to writing completely new material. It's one of the reasons I vomit draft first; that way I have something on paper, even if it's awful.
