they call this science?

to start with, i very much doubt that chinese men really have such an inferiority complex. otherwise, i don't have a problem with the subject matter at all. the headline pretty much explains the whole article, except for the comparison measurements, which is what everyone really wants to know anyhow, right? admit it. so, i skimmed down to that bit ( Read more... )

Ummmmm, if they missed the point, wouldn't that mean they were looking at the wrong organ? ;)

I'd line up, but I'm not tall, and I don't have a (natural) accent... and seven years at Rolla has led me to wonder if I'm still smart.....

"witty" will do nicely in place of "smart" by reason of "i've been at rolla and only seen 6.4 women in 7 years". =P convincingly faked accents are PERfectly acceptable, as long as they're appealing (i.e. don't try the klingon accent).

if they WERE looking at, say, ears, it only proves further how desperately they need my help. *grin*

ah. it makes perfect sense. (if you read between the lines...) anonymous April 22 2005, 22:06:20 UTC
the study was done in Hong Kong...

if one keeps that little nugget in mind, along with the interesting little detail that condom companies actually spend the money to manufacture, a smaller size for sale only in asian markets (where presumably they make more than enough money doing so to justify the practice), this has all of the hallmarks of a study designed to give a specific result...

they get to publish the results they're after, figuring most folk aren't smart enough to look at any of the details, and then, anyone who wants to can quote a 'scientific study' to support arguments to salve the egos of all the poor asian fellows who seem to feel a little bit inadequate about their natural endowment.

me? i just lump myself into the 'clueless guy' category, and don't worry about size. i figure i'm the wrong gender (and have the wrong gender preference) to opine meaningfully about size, anyway. :)

eeeeenteresting. i did not know that about the condom market. so, i gather you're saying that the myth MAY be true, and the perpetrators were worried that if they took measurements that had any real relevance AT ALL, that it would make asian men look bad? hrm... could be the case. i'm still not buying the idea that they would have found any such thing, mind you, but it could have influenced the veryveryvery silly thing they did.

and still. as a refutation for needing smaller condoms? that's just... i mean... have YOU ever tried to put a condom on a non... er... ok, you know what i mean. heh. anyway, thing is that it's not possible, and it's also pretty much not possible. silly.

(steff's opinion on size: it does matter, and we're lying to tell you otherwise. but there's a fairly wide range... stay somewhere between "point and laugh" and "i'm only 5 feet tall, and my health insurance isn't THAT good", and it's probably ok.)

'allo there, dao-not-anonymous. ;)

Hmm, five feet tall and insisting that size does matter; oh, the irony, but then again I'm not way much taller, except of course, compared to five feet. However, I can do accents, that is being a non-native English speaker I cannot not do an accent. Well, I can do the Groundskeeper-Willy-Trainspotting Scottish accent and the obscure scientist Russian accent, but those hardly qualify as yummy do they ? (Italian and French do not count, too stereotypical and hence too easy).

scottish DOES, in fact, count as awfully yummy (yes, it does. for me personally, but i also have backup: http://www.livejournal.com/users/cleolinda/259102.html) but then you went and added "groundskeeper willy" to it. er. *grin* just being danish may count as well. *shrug* you spins the wheel, you takes your chances i guess.
