looking around, i've seen a lot of readers say a lot of nasty things about the international icon tarot deck. i admit, it ain't pretty (unlike my tarot art nouveau deck), but it seems like a good choice for a universal, minimalist deck ( Read more... )

I just started picking up tarot decks myself... haven't really had the time to learn to read yet, though... I am easily distracted.

I did try to play solitaire with them, but I quit when I started bleeding from my eyes.

i, too, am easily distracted, but between the artwork and the mechanics of the process and, many times, the plain eerieness, i've gotten a decent amount of practice. it helps not to be too terribly NT about the card interpretations. there are some decent websites i can throw at you and some book recommendations, though i have personal resources too.

which decks do ya have?

tarot card eyelid papercuts. the worst.

I read some books. It's not really... I dunno. Learning Tarot from a book seems lame, y'know?

Also, as I was discussing with K. yesterday, I think that when I gave up believing in God, I gave up believing in all mystery and supernaturality in the world. I had not realized until just yesterday that they were connected. Further, I think that without a God to disapprove of such things, they are no longer transgressive and therefore no longer as attractive.

That said, I'd still be interested in learning to read them, but I'd rather learn from a person than a book. Several friends offered me their decks (that they presumably are no longer using) and I was nonplussed... like, if they'd taught me to read and THEN gifted me their deck, that would be Right, yanno? But just tossing a spare one at me?... meh.

Am I making any sense, or just being stupid?
