This was one of my absolute favourites this year (and it made my rec list too!) It's so painfully real, and I adore how you drop you straight in, and then the mystery about Dean just clicks together.

Thank you so much (again!) for creating this sorrowful, beautiful, plainspoken-heartbroken piece of road ghost-poetry for me! So many things I love and that matter to me in writing are here--uncanny sense of place, concrete and still mysterious; lost highway, haunted West, that feeling of ineffable grief (and somehow, grace), sentence-rhythms that make their own truth, ending like a sharp, soft gasp. Invocation. How this transmits the there and not-there of Sam and Dean, a real landscape worn to hope and grief and despair and soul; Towaoc and afterlife. So much quiet empathy, sure-voiced, for your Winchesters, brother and ghost, ghost and brother, in their America spun down to one road, one desert, swept away, picked clean. Thank you for this gift.<3
