There are many things about the monarchy that are annoying, but (almost) more annoying still are two of the weak arguments regularly used to justify its existence

[totally rhetorical]Why not be upfront and admit a delight in regalia and ceremony. Heaven knows there will be many in this country watching the hoopla, with no excuse whatsoever except liking reality tv, in this case royal hoopla.

I can respect that motive more, to be honest, as long as people are honest about it. If I were American I might enjoy it too, the same way some British people enjoy looking at the frocks at the Oscars, albeit with the difference that Johnny Depp doesn't get to be President.
