Who was that Masked Stranger?

Mar 31, 2020 08:17

I still have a few masks that I brought back from Japan in 2016 as a souvenir. I bought a few more last month, thinking that if I, my daughter and her boyfriend were in Kyoto then it would makes sense to have some - not so much for protection as because three obvious foreigners not wearing them might draw glares in this febrile time, especially on ( Read more... )

Wearing a mask outside as I deal primarily with two old folks who are paranoid. From Ireland (itself a bumbling jurisdiction) one sees that the UK adopts it "muddle through" system, that, plus arrests for buying non essential Easter eggs. Stay safe.

I don't have any proper masks and so far I haven't seen anyone wearing one. The only thing I do have are the headbands I posted about recently which can also be worn as a bandana to cover the mouth and nose.

I tried, like a few other people I saw in the supermarket, pulling a scarf up over my mouth and nose, but it kept falling off and was incredibly annoying. I did find it kind of psychologically helpful when it stayed up, so I might try and make something a bit more practical, I'm sure there are patterns out there.

I luckily have a long scarf so I wrap it all the way around my neck, with the ends dangling over my chest, then just tug the loop of scarf at the front up over my face - but I found it worked better if I had the scarf inside my coat. Don't know if that'd work for you, but I pass the suggestion on in case it will.

Thank you! I was trying something along those lines but I think maybe a different scarf might work better. Trial and error!

It took me a little while to figure that trick out so happy to pass it on.

I wish I had a mask, and would definitely be wearing one if I did. I tried to buy one about a month ago, but it was already too late. I am wearing an old pair of blue latex gloves out of a hair-dye packet to go shopping in, though, and no-one bats an eyelid at those.

Actually, I just braved a Big Supermarket for the first time since all this started (I've been going on foot to my local medium-sized Sainsers so far), and probably about a quarter of the people I saw (both customers and staff) were wearing masks. I suspect more would be if we could get them!

Make sure to wash the gloves thoroughly before you take them off!

That's a pretty mansplainy comment, mate. You might want to think about why you assumed I wasn't doing this already, and / or needed to be told what to do.

In the US they're finally conceding that masks are better than no masks. but there are plenty of no masks and very few masks.
