Your version would explain why, in License, Steele (who presumably lives in LA) would need to rent a hotel room to "make his presence felt".

I had assumed the same as Elise but I too like the way you tell it.
So many perfect lines it's hard to single any out.

Perfect and so easy to imagine and picture.
I like the way it didn't occur to her that he'd cooked and so in keeping as that little surprise wasn't revealed until later in 'A Good Night's Steele', (I think) :)
