Summary: Earthlings were never meant to become involved in Intergalactic Affairs. Somehow, the Winchesters still managed it.
For the most part, Aliens thought of Earth as a lovely vacation spot, but not particularly worth much consideration in Intergalactic Affairs.
The sentient population of Earth was very young, after all, and had yet to breach the edges of their galaxy. The rest of the Universe, generally being of sensible mind and large intellect, saw no reason to poke sharp sticks at such a backwards, behind and belligerent race.
Then came the H’llans. Or, rather, one in particular.
His name, roughly translated, was Azazel.
His race were currently in the middle of a civil war. This was rather exciting to most of the Universe, because once you evolved as a race past a certain point, it became rather silly to fight amongst yourselves when you could turn your aggression to other species all together.
Azazel came to Earth on a lark, when he took a wrong turn after his navigation system took damage in battle. Once he reached Pluto, he figured he might as well come to Earth for a small vacation instead of going straight back into the thick of things.
He landed in North America, where he subsequently became addicted to football and sugar. A week turned into a month, and before Azazel knew it, he was speaking the language and striking up a friendship with a young mother named Mary Winchester.
He was very fond of her. The two squalling brats? Those he’d prefer not to deal with. So, being of sensible mind and large intellect, Azazel decided that removing Mary from the children was the best course of action.
Thus, one night he stole her away to his spaceship and took her away to make her his bride.
John Winchester, being the husband of Mary, was quite miffed by this. So much so, that after months of investigations into the paranormal, he concluded that his wife had been abducted by an alien and set off to rescue her.
Mary’s parents were naturally alarmed by John’s ramblings, and took in Mary’s two sons, Dean and Sam, and assured them that no, their mother hadn’t been kidnapped by aliens, their father had just been driven insane by her disappearance.
Dean and Sam, being small children, accepted this as truth.
Thus, when John finally managed to track down an alien (a peaceful T’aelen, who was quite surprised to be pounced upon and knocked unconscious by a raving human), he hijacked its spaceship and set off out into the Universe to track down his lost lady love.
When John’s mysterious disappearance was finally noticed, and the Impala returned to the Campbells, Dean called dibs.
Life without their parents didn’t turn out so bad for Dean and Sam Winchester.
Dean grew up popular and well-liked in Lawrence, played many sports and didn’t do too badly in his academics, either. He eventually became a firefighter, which surprised exactly no one.
Sam eventually made the family proud by being accepted at Stanford, where he studied to become a lawyer. He met Jessica Moore there, and fell in love.
Everything was going just peachy for both brothers.
Out in the Universe, everything was going just peachy for Mary Winchester, too. Azazel, leader of one of H’llan sides, had made her his Queen. The H’llans accepted this decision with aplomb, and soon enough Mary was running the whole show. She thought it was rather fun.
The curious civil war raged on, and began to expand to become less ‘civil’ and more ‘intergalactic’. This was concerning to the Universe at large.
Two sides in particular decided to take matters into their own hands. Being of sensible minds and large intellect, they decided to come to Earth, and poke sticks at the backwards people there.
Or, more accurately, kidnap Mary’s sons and hold them hostage.
Sam Winchester was very surprised one night at the library to be confronted with strange people talking in gibberish who proceeded to cart him off to a spaceship.
Dean was interrupted while out drinking with his co-workers. He went willingly enough, although he insisted they bring the Impala as well. His abductors, being of sensible mind and large intellect, knew their luck might not hold and so they agreed to his request.
That was how the ‘67 Chevy Impala became the first car to go into Outer Space.
And how the Winchesters ended up involved in the 44th Intergalactic War.
