It is rather amusing, isn't it? I wrote a couple of papers on Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot for my MA, but looked at the religious motivations of the conspirators (it was Robert Catesby who planned the thing, Fawkes was just unfortunate enough to be the one caught standing next to a room packed with barrels of gunpowder). It is sad that no one really remembers what the purpose of Catesby's conspiracy was (ironically, they had a back-up plan...if the bombing failed to mobilize English Catholics, they planned to portray themselves as Scottish Nationalists opposed to the union of Scotland and England...)

What I also find amusing is that the anarchists and anti-globalization protestors who wear the Guy Fawkes masks from 'V for Vendetta' have to buy them from a Time Warner subsidiary and are thus feeding the capitalist machine.
