     If people wondered why I have so little regard for humanity most of the time, the days following Anders Behring Breivik's terrorist attacks in Norway present an excellent example.

Mainstream news outlets have been covering the story in detail... but the details of the print copy have changed as the details of the incident have emerged.  ( Read more... )

Thanks for this. With all the crap in the world, I think it's important to remember that people - as individuals and as groups - can do the right thing and not just the wrong.

Similarly, I think it's important to remember that, taking the long view, things have actually been getting better. As a for instances, in terms of deaths by violence as a percentage, the 20th century was the most peaceful in the history (and probably the pre-history, too) of humanity.Up until a couple of hundred years ago, slavery - the literal buying and selling of human beings - was simply a given, in every society of which I'm aware. Women everywhere were considered less than men and usually were little better than chattel.

Etc.

Anyway, I'm glad to see you taking note when it's not all shit.
