Giles gently extricated himself from a drifting Alcuin, with a few promise-filled kisses and an admonishment to stay in bed, that breakfast was on his way. I looked up from my book; curled into a chair in the corner, I was not surprised he'd not seen me. Under normal circumstances I would have gone out of my way to be polite to anyone Alcuin brought home; in this case, however, I could not help but tease him a little.

"It is indeed," I said with a grin, one eyebrow wryly quirked. "I must admit I am impressed to see you awake so early."

"In this house, you hardly have need of any," I replied dryly, getting to my feet with an unrepentant grin. "If any of us were modest, well, we should likely not live together nearly so well as we do." The kettle was still full of water and I started the fire beneath it. "Tea?" I offered with a smile over my shoulder. "And breakfast, I think."
