If he sounded bad, it was nothing compared to how he looked. Over the intercom, it was easy to fake it, but in the flesh, he couldn't hide it. He looked just how he felt, and it was far from how he tried to act ( ... )

She edged in closer, looking him over, seeing the… the darkness that flowed out of him, not blood then, but something strange. His was sweating and a mess, his hair matted and his breath came in short labored looking ways. He… he just looked utterly pained, even though talking he laughed and seemed to try to pass this off as nothing. The wound oozed something strange, and she could see the flaps of cut open skin there, just left to hang there like so. A… a normal man would of died ( ... )

Axel would try his hardest to pass it off as nothing. Though his body was pretty broken, his mind had only suffered a dent. Just as Voldemort had so kindly put it, he was heartless, an emotionless shell of a man. What did his body really matter? In essence, he was a nobody, and didn't even exist, a carbon copy at best.

They could break it all they wanted, as long as his mind was safe. That was what he cared about. Sure, it hurt like a bitch, and it wasn't the most comfortable of situations, but it would heal. He'd adjust.

No, what bothered him most was the heart itself. By no stretch was it his heart, and in truth, he felt violated. Most saw it as a simple organ, a necessity for life, there to pump blood and move oxygen. For him, though, it was much more personal, and having someone elses heart inside of him just didn't work.

As for her wondering how he could laugh it off and act like it was nothing, the answer was simple. Who would expect him to laugh after something like that? They did it to get under his skin, and ( ... )

Ah, she hadn’t meant to upset him with the touch, but she knew how much, when she had that terrible illness, that the hair on her face and forehead had been a great bother. Something she couldn’t handle removing on her own and thus it was even more a bother. Sure, there were things worse with her, but that pasted hair on her forehead was really hard to deal with. So… so she was just trying to help. The fact that she invaded his personal space didn’t even sink in that fast either ( ... )

In truth, it was kind of ironic. Nami had insisted on visiting him to see if he was okay, when really, she was the one who appeared to be a mess. Axel didn't mind, really, as he didn't care for charity. He had always had to take care of himself, and it was no different this time, right?

In all actuality, what he really wanted was for people to leave him alone and drop it, moving on as though nothing had happened. Still, it showed how bad off he was to be able to compromise. It hurt too much for him to ignore, and if her showing up to check on him provided a distraction, he'd take it.

It was one of those times when he wanted nothing more than to be isolated, and instead found himself depending on people more. Funny how it worked out.

Yet another ironic twist to this meeting was her question. How was he laying here alive?

Simple, that was the point. He wasn't alive to begin with, was he? Nobody. A heartless shell left over from a long lost imagination, rejected by both light and dark. Rejected by the one person who had ( ... )
