At first, Anubis wasn't at all worried about what tonight's little therapy would entail. Paul was only a thorn in his side, and Orochimaru, as much as he knew about the twisted doctor at this point in time, wouldn't have anything that he could even remotely threaten the god of death. Orochimaru believed quite literally in sparing the rod will spoil the child, but this child had claws and teeth, and far more solid body mass than the doctor would want to try his luck with ( ... )

Nothing that Paul could think of could have made this therapy any better. It wasn't just the set-up alone. Yes, he liked Orochimaru, as much as he could like a person, liked working with him, all that. Even had some kind of respect for that man, at least a sometimes admiring, fascinated kind of appreciation. And yes, he could finally pay that fleabag back for what he'd done before, the whole incident with the exchanged roles, which had led to the incident with Elle, which had led to him being called out and punished, the reason he was still bruised up and with blood in the whites of his eyes.

But no; it wasn't just that. Not just working with Orochimaru, not just working against Anubis. It was also them, those two, pitted against each other, and Orochimaru had methods that Paul did not have. Maybe this would work better against the annoying shit than what Paul himself had tried before.

That Anubis wasn't fucking there when Paul entered his cell (without knocking, through the wall) didn't really help to improve his mood even further ( ... )
