Paul hadn't been looking forward to this meeting at all. Yes, he'd understood long ago that Mayuri wasn't somebody who had a sense of humour. But being beaten within an inch of his life, that was a new experience, and none that he had particularly enjoyed or felt like repeating. Even that woman's healing and the blood he'd gotten from Axel weren't enough to heal the damage fully; his eyesight had recovered, but the whites of his eyes were still blood red from subconjunctival bleeding, and that - while looking horrible, at least harmless - wasn't the only effect that was left. So, Mayuri had clear rules to play by, and clear ways to enforce them. It was annoying, but couldn't be helped at the moment. He'd have to play along.

The sight of the boy's arm when he had gone to pick him up was... interesting to say the least, and for a moment, he had stared in honest, fascinated curiosity. That was nice. Weird. Not like the other boring shit all around here. A genuine freak. And the best was, the boy didn't even struggle when he pulled him ( ... )

After what had felt like an eternity of pacing the cold floor of his cell, he had looked up once Paul arrived. Though he knew it had been coming due to his state of undress - apart from the sheet tied around his waist - he could only glare back at the eyes that were so fixated on his arm. He held his tongue the entire way, simply following and not wishing to cause a ruckus. It wasn't that he felt he was going to get it easy because of it but after being with Cross for so long, one learnt when to pick fights and when not to ( ... )

Paul announced the arrival, and Mayuri turned. He appraised the partially-dressed boy in a few glances - the mostly regular body (a fine specimen for his age), the strange markings around the left eye (that would bode further research), and finally the red arm, so strange and patterned near the shoulder, clawlike near the fingers. He couldn't draw his eyes away from it for quite some time, considering it - if it would chip, break apart, peel like skin, or refuse to bend to his attempts. A challenge, maybe. He wasn't terribly fond of challenges, but for something as new and interesting as this, he was willing to confront a few ( ... )

Paul grabbed the boy's shoulder and pulled him towards the chair without another comment, much as he wanted to. This was freaking annoying, being unable to talk without a reminder that Mayuri could shut him up any time he wanted. He wasn't someone who normally cared for "rights", but that it was perfectly legitimate for the doctor to do so just made it a little worse; no possibility to at least get Mayuri in trouble ( ... )

Feeling the tug on his arm, Allen shot another glare at Paul. It wasn't as if he was unaccustomed to being handled like this, having been pushed around so many times when younger and even beyond the apprenticing years from Cross. Still, he gave into being herded to the chair, sitting in it and making himself as comfortable as he could ( ... )

Paul was doing his job properly for once. Mayuri took a syringe into his hand and turned back to the boy, who was going pale (paler, anyway) and staring at Paul as if the idiot was a ghost. Frightened and distracted, the boy would be unable to try and prevent any blood and skin samples from being taken. Not that his bound limbs would be able to do much in any case, but he wasn't keen on hearing a boy complain about the pain ( ... )
