He couldn't help it. In this situation, so out of the realm of the ordinary, Mello found himself wondering what Near would have done in his shoes (or lack of, as the current case was). Could the young man have kept so cool if his own eyesight had been taken away? If he lacked the ability to precisely stack anything stackable or enjoy the various colors of cars on his toy racetrack... He refused to believe that L's other successor would remain so calm then.

He probably would, though. Just to spite him. Somehow, that frozen visage would remain. The very thought of it nearly caused him to be physically ill, and he drove all such matters from his mind. He was the one in this dilemma now. He knew what the staff intended with this treatment. He knew his own weaknesses better than anyone ( ... )

Some part of Mello's mind resented the fact that he couldn't currently get a good glimpse of a the blonde girl clad in nothing but a sheet. This thought was shoved to the back where he shoved all such similar thoughts on a regular basis. There were more important matters.

"Are you a one-woman toga party, then?" Mello smirked. "I feel blessed." He focused his currently empty gaze onto his lap. That was easier than trying to follow her movements with his head. She'd be able to tell right off, then. He'd have to show her eventually, of course. That was, after all, the reason she'd come.

It was interesting that she chose to sit by him. He imagined one could be pretty damn brave when they didn't have to worry about physical injury.

Oh, please, he'd seen her yesterday all bells and whistles, privates hardly covered at all. Sometimes things had slipped, too, at times, and they'd been readjusted by-- well, she wasn't really sure who had done that, something she'd decided by now that she rather preferred-- and, still, even if she'd been feeling pretty vulnerable all day, she was somewhat certain that she'd been somewhat of a... sight, for some people ( ... )

Mello gave a light chuckle. "What type of person did you think I was, then?" He was far from a pervert, but he could hardly be considered a gentleman by most standards. Decency sort of fell by the wayside in pursuit of his larger goals.

And then there was the expected question on the scar. Most people didn't get to see as much of it as she was, as it ran down the side of his neck and covered a fair portion of his back, which was usually well hidden by his coat. It didn't bother him, of course, and he brushed back some of his hair so she could get a better look.

"What, this? Blew up a building while I was still inside it." He kept his expression dead serious. Why bother making something up?
