Day: 100
Characters: Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell
Summary: Heero is not a happy camper. He desperately wants to beat all that is holy (not much) out of his former "friend" (if you can call the fleeting battles they fought together a friendship). Duo wants to not get beat up. Actually, he wants to work it out--not just their spat, but also all of this ( Read more... )

Duo had been early to the appointed meeting spot, but he'd killed the extra time by lurking in the shadows, not about to kill his reputation by being anything but fashionably late. He'd seen Heero arrive and brood in the same spot for quite some time, and though it had been amusing at first to chuckle at the consternation in his overly-serious expression, it wasn't long before he started to feel a little bad. He supposed he might have been a little hard on Heero, taking out his own frustrations about this weird situation they were in on someone who was even more in the dark than he was. Great, now I feel like someone who just ran over a puppy with his truck, Duo thought, a frown appearing on his face. Damn that Heero Yuy and his sad little boy face! But then again, it wasn't his fault that Heero was too socially retarded to know up from down when it came to interacting with 98% of mankind. It wasn't Duo's fault that Relena had a crush on Heero, so why should he feel bad about being the one who clued the idiot in? If anything, he was ( ... )

Knee-jerk reaction: stand up quick. Heero faced Duo for the first time since the day he'd self destructed in Wing, unsurprised to find that the other pilot hardly looked different. Still the same, irritating swagger. Irritating because it didn't make any sense in context. Duo should have been serious, contemplative, scared. He should have been afraid of Heero.

He should have been afraid because Heero was. And damned if he didn't despise admitting that. So what gave Duo the right to act all confident and cocky? What made him stronger than Heero? What did Duo know that he didn't? Why didn't Heero know it?

"Duo Maxwell," Heero said, his voice monotonous and unfriendly. He flexed his badly blackened hand, wished he had a gun. Is fleetingly thankful he didn't. "Former pilot of the Gundam Deathscythe. You have shown no initiation, no regard for your duty. You are a distraction and a hindrance to my goal. Therefore,"

Therefore,

"I must kill you."

Regret.

Duo's eyebrow twitched, but that was the only tremor in his grinning expression that denoted he was anything but cool and carefree. He shrugged carelessly, saying, "Ho hum, heard that tired old line before. I don't remember anyone dying and giving you the authority to decide who's worthy of shit."

He took a bold step forward, a hand on each hip as he put on an air that clearly demonstrated he wasn't afraid of Heero and his mouth full of hot air. "Now, either Relena's a cat with nine lives, or you're just a big ol' pussy. Meow, kitty."

He even had the audacity to make a clawing motion at Heero, careless of whether or not it bothered the Wing pilot. If anything, he hoped it did.

Heero didn't know what infuriated him more, the actions or the fact that Duo didn't seem to care about anything. If someone, God help them, had told Heero that he was unworthy of piloting Wing he would have shot them in the forehead without thinking twice. But here Duo Maxwell was, mocking him in the face of his own demise. It was just another notch in an unrelenting line of defiant hand waves. And Heero was disappointed. A part of him, a very small part, had wanted Duo to show some sign of caring. At least have tried to change Heero's mind. If anything, the attitude solidified Heero's resolve. He believed even stronger in what he had to do. Believed with all of his heart that it was right.

And not once did he think, 'Poor Duo Maxwell.'

When his hand struck out, palm flat, he aimed for the throat.
