"Um," he began, making a show of looking contemplative for a moment. Then, after a few seconds of faux-thought, the act dropped, and he nearly glowered at the boy while snapping, "Yes." Again, an arm outstretched; he waved the brat over, briefly entertaining the idea of going in there and grabbing hold of him.
It would be a pain in the ass, but he would if he had to, he supposed. This wasn't really a make-Lavi-feel-better talk. There were important bases to cover, and this was just one stop of his (not-so-)scheduled stops. "Don't be a punk, just come on. The quicker you move, the quicker this will be over, and you can get right back to moping and making doe-eyes at Tyki. Or whatever it is you do all day."
"Not here, obviously." Mostly, he just wanted to get away-- or, as away as they could get while the sun was still up. He spared a parting wave to Tyki for the sake of manners, though he was unsure whether the Noah was even awake or paying attention. Out of all three of them, he was the one Cross was least concerned about at the moment.
"Come along, worthless," he said in a cheerful sort of voice, evidently agreeing with Lavi's woes over not accomplishing much. Truly, none of them were. It was almost frightening how easy it was to admit and accept that fact now.
He started off down the hall, still moving at a slow, ginger pace. He sort of had no idea where he wanted to go, but as long as they were going, his mind was at a little more ease. Until he settled on a destination, they could make smalltalk. "What's the issue with you, brat?"
"Because I asked, which generally means I want an answer." Honestly, now. He wouldn't have made an effort if he didn't want to know. Not that he was asking because he cared-- Christ, no. He was no Sokaro. There was no hidden compassionate side to him; at least not any that he would admit while there was still breath left in his body.
And though he was sure Lavi had no problems that could possibly outweigh anyone else's, he was still... curious.
Although hesitant to say it aloud, Cross was inclined to agree. It was getting to all of them. It was pitiful. Everything they fought against and put up with from a day to day basis, and this was wearing them all down. Killing them. He let out a deep breath, glancing at the teen out of the corner of his eye as he rounded a corner. "Getting to you how?"
"Never leaving this place?" Cross hummed in thought, folding his arms over his middle as he continued to walk. That was a bold statement. As bleak as things were, there were ways out. They just... had to find them. Shit, he had made it out before, after all. There had to be another way. Had to. "That's pessimistic of you, boy." They simply weren't trying hard enough. There were too many distractions.
"What would Bookman say if he saw his brat giving up so easily," he pondered out loud. "Tsk. I thought your Clan taught you better than that-- I can't recall anything about a Bookman whining and quitting because something was too hard." A shrug. "Suppose even I can be wrong from time to time."

Such talent when it came to children.
