It was really a fucking joke that the people who worked here called themselves doctors. Rin might have found it more amusing if she, and people she cared about, hadn't fallen under their purvey. What kind of doctor, after all, shoved a tangly bit of metal into a man's innards and sealed it inside him? What doctor then forced him out of much-needed bed rest for some kind of ridiculous conversation?

She supposed that it would be better to make sure that Cross got there more or less in one piece herself, rather than trusting him to the hands of some unknown security or nurse. God knew how he'd come back if she did that.

Which is why she was at his cell again, helping him clamber out of bed and slowly, laboriously getting his arm over her shoulders.

"Rin, I don't--" Seriously, now. Seriously. It was bad enough when River hauled him out of his room and helped him gimp to the showers, but... seriously? Rin couldn't have been more than six- or seventeen, and was half his size. Yet she was hellbent on pulling him out of bed and dragging him to wherever he needed to be.

Now, he liked the kid a lot. Honestly. But this was just... ah. Well, it would have been a sight to see.

Still, he couldn't possibly have made it on his own. Something as simple as standing set him dizzy and wobbling, and even a single step left him with a gut-wrenching feeling of needing to vomit. Lucky for the both of them (as with River) he had nothing to vomit up anyway. They had barely made any ground, in fact, when he shakily announced, "No. Not going."

As much as he longed to see Tyki squirm, he wasn't sure it was worth all of this.

As little sympathy as she had for whatever crackpot scheme Suchong was whittling away at now, as much as she'd have preferred just to drop him back in bed and leave him to a couple more hours of uninterrupted rest, there was no getting around the fact that the shithead doctor was determined to see Cross, whether he walked to the office or was dragged.

And if he had to be dragged, she was definitely going to be the one dragging him. At least Rin knew that she wouldn't be whanging him deliberately into any walls, or throwing him down and kicking him repeatedly in the kidneys or something. Unless he was too difficult. That might call for a bit of applied pressure ( ... )

When he was refusing an opportunity to make Tyki Mikk's life Hell, something was definitely wrong.

But Rin wasn't having any of it, apparently. With good reason. She had a good head on her shoulders, and her assumption was right. If Suchong wanted Cross there, Cross would be there one way or another. All of this movement was currently rendering him senseless again, but once his head cleared up and he got himself under control, he would appreciate what she was forcing him to do.

Might even thank her later.

As for not being heavy, he wheezed a chuckle. Despite all of his troubles, he was still concerned about leaning too heavily on the poor girl and causing her to collapse. Maybe if he just got it over with-- he nodded jerkily, unable to find his words. All he had to do was make it there.

"All right." She did her best to put a determined face on it. "Let's go, shall we?"

It seemed to take forever to make it down the hall, with frequent rests and moving at the crabbed shuffle that was most comfortable for Cross. But they made it, somehow. He looked ready to die by the time they were at the end of the hall, and there was plenty left to go.

Thank God that Cross was on the first floor, and that they didn't have to deal with stairs.

Down the hall, rest at the corner, down another hall, rest, hall, rest. It wore into a pattern. Rin found herself holding her breath in sympathy for Cross, who looked practically waxen. And how was he going to get back? Definitely a good idea to request a wheelchair. Damn it all.

As it was, Rin was nearly relieved to see Tyki. She just narrowed her eyes at the man instead. It wasn't fair that he should be lounging on his own two feet while Cross struggled.
