Sasuke wasn't there. Reeve didn't know where Sasuke was. Reeve didn't care where Sasuke was. To be honest, he didn't care about much of anything, now. His emotional reserves had been drained dry by the past day's events, from his panic attack and Paul's escalation to Bella's announcement and panic to his argument with Gary and Heidi's gruesome death, broadcast throughout the asylum. Her screams still echoed in his ears, even now. Kind eyes... gone. Forever ( ... )

Visibly shaking, Gary continued the sort of pacing that he had been doing outside the room. He covered the whole length of the room with short and quick steps. He didn't even look at Reeve once he'd said his initial statement, preferring instead to stare down towards his feet as he pulled together the various strands of thoughts and emotions in order to complete a coherent sentence ( ... )

Gary stood in front of the door like a man heading for execution; Reeve simply waited. Venom virtually dripped from the assistant's words as he began ranting. Papa Bear. Saint. It made him want to laugh, really, because where the hell was he getting these ideas from? Amazing? Sweet? Was Gary smoking something or was he just so pissed off he couldn't think straight?

His fingers ran over the ragged flesh of his knuckles, painting the tips with blood. Even if he didn't agree with the prior... he knew the rest was true. Reeve'e eyes tracked Gary as he began to pace again, stalking back and forth like a caged animal, and he had to bite back the urge to shout at him. To scream at him. Did he really think Reeve wanted them all so dependent on him? That he craved having to be the leader, the one everyone looked up to? That he enjoyed being the one that they leaned so damned heavily on, constantly in flux and unstable, looking to him to stabilize a world that constantly shifted? Was he mad? Did he not even understand how fucking hard it was ( ... )

Gary's hands and feet ached, feeling as if all his energy was being pushed, by his anger, to the very tips of his fingers and toes. He shook his head, using the movement as an excuse to not look Reeve in the eyes. He'd been willing to do it a moment ago, but staring at Reeve was doing the same actions for far too long, willing his shaking frame to direct itself towards too specific a target. There were too many things that grabbed at his attention, even now, when he could be using Reeve as a stand in for for everyone that was threatening Gary's sense of comfort at the minute ( ... )

A very small part of him was taking pleasure in seeing Gary, always so glib and quick to run his mouth, flounder like this. It was fascinating, in a way. He hadn't really ever been enclosed in a room with the younger man before; Reeve wasn't sure what to expect. Gary wandering, leaning, fidgeting like a nervous girl at a school dance... it just didn't compute. Amusing, certainly, but irrational and utterly unexpected ( ... )
