Some vapid girl said that to me at a boring, alcohol-centric party I very briefly attended this past Saturday. Blarg and a half. Ah, but you see, most people get horribly lame tattoos. That gives tattoos a bad name. I have seen a select few that actually do look like drawings. I'd imagine drawing with a needle on skin is a bit difficult in itself, much like drawing with icing on a cake. Most cakes are not art, either, but certainly some exist that can reasonably claim that kind of title.

I think you should use this opportunity to your advantage. Show up and set your stuff next to those tattoo and graphic artists and make them look bad. It shouldn't be hard. When was the last time you saw someone who claimed to be a graphic designer who actually had any talent? (Besides that guy I married, of course.) There's a reason why most people who graduate with a graphic design degree aren't working as graphic designers three years later, and it's not for lack of available jobs.
