AN: AU Becker/Connor Regency romance of many clichés and unlikely shenanigans. Continues from here. Following their night of passion, Connor has run away unable to face the thought that Becker does not love him…

AN2: Am a bit guilty of subverting the challenge to suit my story. Am a lot guilty of rehoming a Yorkshireman across the Pennines into Lancashire.

“They’re gone now, lovee,” said Mrs Pembleblossom.

Connor concentrated on the clock he was repairing, grateful that she didn’t seem to notice he was crying.

“Good.”

“What will you do?”

“Go home. There’s nothing left here.”

“It’s for the best,” she observed kindly. “Things will look brighter once you’ve had a sleep in your own bed. Then you’ll feel up to facing your guardian and your…well, you’ll feel better in the morning. Mr Pembleblossom can drive you as far as Twickenham. You’ll be in London by nightfall.”

Connor surreptitiously wiped his eyes. “I’m not going to London.”

“Where then?”

“Manchester.”
