“Bugger!” Connor dropped his half-eaten burger and ran from the room as the alarms sounded.
Matt knew he should follow. Instead, he lingered by the table, hand poised over the discarded snack. He wasn’t hungry. He didn’t need to hoard food. Not here. Not now. He stepped away with an effort of will.
They were all so wasteful.
Except Emily.
Emily, who had rushed in yesterday clutching a reprint of Mrs Beeton’s cookbook with her eyes shining.
“Look Matt!” she babbled. “There’s a recipe for stock. We can use the turkey carcass and freeze the extra to use later.”
Emily understood.
