I was thinking earlier: sure, there are alot of English words, but there are alot of Cantonese words, or Japanese, or Chinese, or whatever everybody else speaks.
Which brings me to this: ever since watching Vietnam films like The Deer Hunter, hearing Cantonese makes frightens me more than anything else I encounter daily. For instance, if someone walks past me with one of those cell phone "things" where it is a wire and sometimes you just can't tell that they are talking on the phone at all, and so you think they are talking to themselves (in cantonese), or maybe to you! It scares me. It really does scare me.
I had an encounter with someone on one of those things a couple of weeks ago...and you are right I wish there was a word to describe the initial panic I felt...maybe there is a cantonese word to describe this day.
