You're not horrible! Believe me, I know what it's like to not have the time or mindspace to participate in things like you might want to. <3

The YA list looks interesting, I might try to check some of them out. Uh. Eventually. Here's an excerpt of Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan; I wouldn't expect heavy literature, but if you want some light reading with a gothic/sleuth theme starring perpetually fast-talking people it might be worth a try. (Warning: animal harm, not graphic.)

I kinda botched the interview, which I think is a sign that I've been away from everything for too long. I'll know for sure by June.

Yeah, but I get so lazy with keeping up with people ... even the ones I want to keep in touch with. Idk, I fail at basic social interaction? How are you doing? Don't feel bad about the interview, it's their loss and landing a position in academia atm is about 80% luck and rules of supply and demand (most departments have a very narrow research focus and use their PhD candidates to ... uh, "help" them with that, so fitting in mostly means to have a skillset they require at this very moment). Buuuut as you said, you will only know by June and until then, keep on keeping on <3 (She said, anxiously waiting to hear back from a grant-giving foundation as well.)

Pardon my assumptions, but I don't think you're lazy - keeping up with people and making words at them takes time and energy and focus, no matter how much you like them, and sometimes you've just got a little too much going on as it is. It was so much easier back in school, when the people you wanted to keep up with were right there with you and you didn't have so much other stuff around you. I'm kinda shitty with situations not remediable by cupcakes and hugs. (True story: man's dad had heart attack a few summers ago, I made muffins. It seemed to work ok.)

(tl;dr; I tend to assume you're busy working and living, and don't feel offended or neglected. You also don't have to reply to this rightaway or at all. <3 ( ... )
