Tesla and Twain

While listening to Mysterious Universe episode 75 podcast last night, I learned through a story called "My Invisible World" that Mark Twain was close friends with Nikola Tesla... the author relates the following:

"Nikola Tesla... locked himself in his lab for days unaware that his best friend, Mark Twain was dying. When Mark Twain had died April ( Read more... )

That is so fantastic! I <3 Twain and Tesla. I hope it's a true story--it should be if it isn't, ya know? :D What a great photo.

yeah some stories just feel true even when they aren't obvious or easy to imagine... this however is a case of "oh wow, yeah that would make total sense!"

If you get the chance read the biography of Tesla called "Wizard". It's amazingly good. I happen to be playing the ghost of Tesla in a web-radio program. I'll send you details when it comes out.

That photo was the first photograph taken by fluorescent light. Apparently it's a very long exposure.

"I'll send you details when it comes out," that would be wonderful, please do!

Thanks for the biography suggestion and info on the photo! Years ago I tried reading a couple of Tesla bios that were mostly about his inventions and brilliant mind... unfortunately, they were either too wack-a-doo or dry to keep me interested for long and I never finished reading them.

Also, there's a comic by Matt Fraction called "The Five Fists of Science" in which Tesla and Twain team up to fight Carnegie, Morgan and Edison and bring about world peace through particle beam weaponry.

Yeah...that was a hella good episode. I didn't know that they were friends either. Knowing that they were adds a new dimension to each of their characters.

Hi! I'm MegaJoshX over @ MU. I saw you linking :)

Wonderful episode... and I agree with you, that does add a "new dimension to each of their characters."

Mr. Grundy's show has been keeping me entertained for over a year and has rekindled my interest in our truly mysterious universe. Perhaps one of my favorite things about the show is Grundy's genuine fascination and excitement regarding the subject matter.
While I recognize the need for serious scientific consideration and debate of such subjects, I also think that there's a cultural need to address these issues in the common tongue and Grundy's presentation reminds me of a conversation between friends.

I've been wrangling listeners to MU for some time now... funny thing is, I've found a few of my co-workers already on the bulletin boards!

Since it's on topic, did you catch my sketch of Sasquatch in the previous entry? Sasquatch!

WTF?

I'm not sure I like it, but it is well executed (unlike much of what [as] is calling comedy these days).
If anything, that video has only further solidified my desire to move to England. My favorite part is the "change" the locksmith gives the King of Mods...

(I missed this comment somehow!? Cursed LJ!)

Yes indeed, kimberpixie is talking about The Mighty Boosh! I watched 5 episodes -on YouTube- at the studios while I was working late one night... it's brilliant. My wish would be that [adult swim] add something like that to their programming, ie. show it here in the states!

(Love the new user icon btw!)

I love Tesla! (not the band.) When I was in Scotland I saw a biographical play about his life. It was amazing.
