I'm not going to be a happy camper if I ever meet the extreme and powerfully obtuse idiot who decided that "Soundtrack" and "Alternative & Punk" were genres of music.
Because genre should reflect the style of music. R&B is a genre, jazz is a genre, dance, hip-hop, pop, bluegrass, folk. The only connection between "The Imperial March" from Star Wars and "Maniac" from Flashdance and Sheryl Crow singing "Begin the Beguine" from De-Lovely is that they're all songs that were heard during films. The styles of music are entirely different. Using "soundtrack" as the genre conveys absolutely, positively no information about what you're going to hear when you press play.
Saying that they're all from the "Soundtrack" genre and therefore similar is like saying that The Beverly Hillbillies and The Office are both from the "sitcom" genre of television show, therefore similar. It's just a remarkably useless classification.
