I wish the ALA would start offering discounts on conferences and publications and workshops and stuff for those of us below the librarian poverty line -- part-timers and MLS-degreed folk stuck in paraprofessional positions -- because if things continue as they are now most of us new librarians will never be able to afford professional development

We should start a petition or something. I'm sure we'd get a lot of support for it.

If I get rich and famous, I'll totally do it. I did see an interesting set of one-day preservation workshops in PA that were $25 for PA institutions and $75 for other states, which seems pretty damn reasonable to me.
