I had recently made a business trip with friends who used a GPS, but kept arguing with 'Garmina'; the friends wanted to use the less-traveled roads, and Garmina kept trying to send us to the Interstate. When the call went out that one of our fandom could use some emotional support (stories, manips, vids), this idea seemed tailor-made to craft a light-hearted story.

I had the opposet experience on a recent trip. The GPS kept trying to send us down back roads and byways that may have looked straigher on the map, but were quite narrow and scary (remember, I live in West Virginia); a couple of times it even tried to send us down what looked like abandoned logging trails!

Another friend took a trip to Maryland, and said that the GPS sent her through the WORST neighborhoods of Baltimore, and more than once tried to send her the wrong way down a one-way street!

I'm beginning to wonder if accuracy is a factor of road density - I live in the wide open spaces where there aren't that many to choose from.

I dunno; I once was lost in Dallas, driving around for two hours in the gathering darkness, several times asking for directions that only got me more lost. I finally hired a taxi driver to lead me to my hotel. Somehow, I think even a GPS system with faults would be better than that.

This is excellent. *g*

I've even heard of a moron who turned on Cruise Control, then took a nap. The depth of people's stupidity would seem to have no limits. LOL.

No kidding! I read somewhere -- "The problem with common sense is that it isn't."

Thanks for commenting; I really appreciate it.

{grin} One of the joys of watching Top Gear is one of the guys (we all call him Captain Slow) getting lost, then arguing with his satellite navigation...

Which I could totally see Blair doing, now I think about it.

This was fun!!

I don't think we get Top Gear in the US, although I could have simply overlooked it if it is available.

Captain Slow) getting lost, then arguing with his satellite navigation...

Yes, I suspect I'll argue with mine, when I get one. Although he might be playing up for the audience.

Which I could totally see Blair doing, now I think about it.

Oh, yes! And Jim sternly telling him, "Sandburg, it won't get you there if you keep second-guessing the directions. If you don't want to use it, I'll return it and you can move back to the passenger seat."

This was fun!!

Thank you. I'm pleased you enjoyed it.

I don't think we get Top Gear in the US...A lot of the best bits are on youtube. Apparently they're making an American versionm but - like the Australian - I doubt it'll have the magic, which is all about the three guys and their personalities.

He could be playing it up but with James, you never actually know...

Oh, yes! I can JUST hear Jim saying that. With Brown & Rafe in the back seat saying, "Are we there yet?"
