Speak out against this appalling regulation.

I hardly know where to start - my gut response is drop-jawed hand-flailing (and not in the good way). I seriously believe that 'stupidity' doesn't cover it; this is a deliberately evil attempt to hold women down / prevent them from reaching true equality in society by turning them into unwilling baby-factories ( Read more... )

Well, increasingly many 'Christians' in your country have so very much in common with fundamentalist Muslims. Men are superior to women, women really shouldn't have any rights, women are created to please men and have children, women should be virgins until they marry, no one is as good/righteous/etc as these men (particularly men of other races and all women), homosexuals shouldn't have any rights (and probably should go to jail or be stoned or something), and it's just fine to drop bombs on ... er ... people who adher to the 'other' religion. It's sad, sickening and very scary.

True -- although I truly think that they're still in the minority. Unfortunately, because the rest of us didn't want to be intolerant of other beliefs, they weren't told, "that's fine for your people, but you mustn't force your ideals onto anybody else," and they gained too large a foothold. Even more unfortunately, Bush turns a blind eye; I think he secretly believes with the most extreme segments, although he didn't say so when he was running. (I hope it might have made a difference, but I don't know.)

It's sad, sickening and very scary.

Yes, very.

it's also a case of 'squeaky wheel' syndrome. there are a lot of fundamentalists out there that don't believe they have the right to inflict their beliefs on others... but the Fred Phelps and Micheal Leavitts of the world drown them out without lifting a hand.

otoh, yeah, this is scary. i'm totally disgusted with both parties this year, and this is yet another example of why. i'm with lwj2, and suspect i might cast my vote for Patrick Henry. we checked, and being dead isn't an impediment to being president....

Good point. The media gloms onto the loud ones to talk about, and their influence seems more extensive than it is. But now, as it tries to take over the country, it seems hard to combat it.

i might cast my vote

I'm also not happy with either party, and was planning to vote Green, just to send a message... when I looked at the data and realized my state is a 'swing'. Very narrowly Repub, so I absolutely intend to vote Dem. Maybe, maybe enough will swing to make us very narrowly Dem...

May I link to this in my journal? I don't know how I could say it any better.
