So, this would be one of those "character's in character without being present," with Jaina being the focal point issue, even though she is ..... not..... present.
Wrote it without reading the prompt closely enough. FAIL. (Hey, failed with my own prompt for the 20th, so, what can you do?)
This does not neither fail! It's a piece that could be an example of a lighthearted fic in character, and I particularly liked all the bits of backstory in it, like Jaina's being prompted to choose Kyp as 'manservant' by Jag. Piggy and Sharr stand out as foils with their own funny solemnity.
Thanks for your reassurance--but if this were a contest, I'd be disqualified for failing to include 1/3 of the required characters.
Which is not to mean I'm in no way tickled by this little bit of fluff. I can't read it without grinning like a fool. I kinda developed a soft spot for Kyp. And devious Corellians.
When NJO first came out, I waited happily for each installment and haven't read any of the new series after that. It was fun to recall the uses of Kyp and the sort-of attraction that was going on between Jaina and him.
You know, I'd pass on The Dark Nest--you could read the wookieepedia summaries and be fine. Especially the first--it's really, really hard getting through the first. The Legacy of the Force series, for the most part, has been good. I took Sacrifice back to the store, but particularly the books by Allston--that man can do little wrong in the GFFA.
Poor, poor Kyp. The Jaina rivalry never ends does it? It's like a battle royale between Durron, Jag and Zekk. Great characterization. I'm still intrigued by Kyp's mysterious lady friend that "likes his hair long".
I have an answer to Kyp's mysterious ladyfriend. Only my post-Dark Nest novel got punted to Alternate Universe status when LotF started. Yeah--a whole novel, which I only went back to finishing this May.
Suffice to say, I'm working on a LotF retcon. I hate retcons, but I hated abandoning my characters (which I'd been rolling around in my head for almost ten kriffing years) even more.
