Another query for the all-knowing internet. Amy already tried to give me a hand with this pressing and deeply important question, but I didn't want to strain the boundaries of her recently cut up and drugged mind.

Note the Wikipedia article on moldings. Is there an equivalent word for the paper equivalent of that? Or when one has a piece of ( Read more... )

I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at, but for paper, do you maybe mean embossing?

No ... that's not the thing either ... blast. I'm /positive/ there's a word for what I'm thinking of. Like, if you have a border on a piece of paper that goes all off into swirlies and leaves and other decorative bits. Like on a manuscript or something ...

I would really go with arabesque or circumscription. Dictionary.com will tell you if I'm on the right or wrong track

ya, generally it's just called a border. for old manuscripts it's illumination.
