I can honestly say that I didn't know about it until today, either. Rest assured, I would have told you if I had known. Perhaps it was kept a secret. I saw a poll on The Observer about what band should be brought to Legends. Barenaked Ladies is top right now, with Jack's Mannequin in second place.
:) I'm not saying it's a bad song. It's just that I am still in love with the PWT's FIRST CD, and each successive one strikes me less and less. I'm just hoping they mix it up and play old stuff, too. If it turns out to be a live session of Every Second Counts, I'll be devastated.
Yep! I think I'm going. Mainly because my sister really likes the song "Hey There Delilah" and I associate it with her (also I completely ph4i13d at going to the Flogging Molly concert, and I owe it to her to go to this one).
so, uh, I guess, anything I should listen to before I go? Because...yeah. I know >nothing about these guys.
I'm guessing they'll play what's made them popular. Which will mostly make me feel OLD and I'll resort to grumbling about back in the day when they used to be better. Haha.
I dunno. I truly find their newest stuff (which is pretty widely available and mostly cheap) to all sound the same, and all be mediocre. Their first CD, Stop, had a handful of excellent songs ("Happy Someday," "A Lonely September," "Radios in Heaven," "What If," "Penny (Perfect for You)," "Your Fault") and they have some songs that never went on actual CD releases ("Cinderella Story," "Skinny Dipping," "Come on Over," "All Dressed Up") that are good too.
On their new stuff, I have a hard time picking favorites. I enjoy parts of some songs where they bother to harmonize for ten seconds ("Write You A Song," "Let Me Take You There"). "Hey There Delilah" is from their second album, and it's the only song that even barely stands out, only because it's their only single off that album. Every other song is either slow and boring or fast, poppy and vague.
You know, I think I'd heard of the band, but I've heard "Hey There Delilah" on the radio so many times, and that song does nothing for me at all. I should listen to their older stuff then?
I recommend their first album. It's not the greatest music in the history of ever, but it's good stuff. I'm sure some songs have a nostalgia factor for me, but still. Their earliest stuff seemed more sincere, less poppy, more interesting. Their more current stuff is, in a word, unremarkable. It just sounds like it belongs on the radio, or on some teen drama (indeed, several tracks on Every Second Counts have been played on the cheesefest Greek airing on ABC Family). There's occasionally a clever lyric or tune, but that's about it.
Interesting note: one of my close friend's band (he's the lead singer - check 'em out at www.loveinoctober.com) opened for Plain White Ts at a MTVU concert in Six Flags Great America last month, which I think we all can agree is pretty awesome. What's less awesome is the fact that I really wanted to go to the concert, but was unable to due to meetings and awful planning on my part.
