50 states in 10 minutes

Mar 20, 2007 18:06

So apparently it's a difficult thing to list all 50 states in 10 minutes? Haha, well, maybe kind of. It took me seven minutes and eight seconds to get all fifty, while it only took me about four minutes to get forty-nine of 'em. Oops. And then I realize that the one I forgot is one of the eight states I've actually been to. Oops some more ( Read more... )

2:10, baby. About fifteen of those seconds was me trying to figure out how to spell "Massachusetts" (curse you, lack of a final e!).

but then again, I also memorized that states song in seventh grade (everyone else seems to have learned it in third grade; I didn't find out about it until seventh, at which point I memorized it so I would be on top of things) and still remember it. And about once a year maybe I sing it.

so...the only hard part of that was typing it fast enough.

Haha, sheesh. I started it and got to 49 in a little over two minutes... then failed to think of the last one and, when I realized I was down to five minutes, I quit and start over. This time I got to 49 even faster, well within two minutes, but again I couldn't think of the last one. The funny thing was that I re-read my list, and I was missing the exact same one! Again, after a few minutes, I quit. I wanted to remember this damn elusive state on my own, dammit! But somehow, the third time, finally, I did. While this damn state had eluded me on my previous two mental trips around the country, here it was now.

So which was the mystery state that I kept forgetting over and over? Missouri! I guess it makes sense in a way, in that it's a state that I don't associate with any particular region. So I'd think of driving from place to place, of all the different regional blocks, and Missouri was always left out.

Haha. Missouri was the last of the 49 I remembered out the gate. For some reason, I neglected Kansas. Oops.

Oh, I found that thing a few weeks ago. It took me about 2 minutes to get 40, 2:45 to get 49....and almost four minutes to get the last one(took me 4 min. total). I completely forgot about California...

How many states have I been to now...ahh, fourteen. Probably half I was only traveling through, not actually visiting, but MN, where I was for a full 15 min to switch planes, does not count, but if I spent several hours driving through the effing state, I was there(thinking of IA and NE here).

Haha, yeah, I never counted being in Minnesota until I actually set foot outside the airport a year and a half ago. I'd switched planes there a couple times before that.

I should figure out how many states I have been in. But, I guess I don't really remember the exact route of a trip I went on umpteen million years ago, so I might erroneously count a couple of states in the middle.

I'd say I've probably spent most of my quality Minnesota time in the MSP Airport :-P And, well, that's a considerable amount of time. Maybe not, though, with a quick weekend trip to Duluth and that camping I did one other summer north of Duluth. Still... far too much time to spend in MSP. I'd been there over a dozen times before ever setting foot on land that was actually Minneapolis proper. Actually, I'm still not sure that I have.

I feel a little bit better about the fact that my elusive state is smaller than those others in the comments -- I just couldn't think of Delaware. :-)
Took a long time for Nevada, though, and that's a big one.

I always wanted to memorize that stupid state song; when I changed schools, the kids had already learned it, and I never had to. So I can hum it now, but that's not helpful at all...

I know neither the tune nor the words to the state song, though I probably know half of Wakko's state capital song from the cartoon Animaniacs. Maybe I should have used that to help me! Heh. Anyway, oh well. I've survived this long without knowing that song, so I think I can make it longer.

Oh, I didn't even think of that one! I loved Animaniacs.

Animaniacs was awesome! Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
