Quick question: Any directors who makes good (non-R18) films with a distinct style? Please try to stay away from the big names like Baz Luhrmann and that, they're mostly already taken, or in the case of Alfred Hitchcock, we're doing him in class (haha out of context I am so mature), and the exemplars are all Peter Jackson. Auteur study? I did Alfonso Cuaron, which was interesting. Bonus: he has one extra film now - A Little Princess, PoA, Great Expectations (with Gweneth Paltrow) and Children of Men.
He has some pretty distinct elements.

Otherwise, Tim Burton?

Michel Gondry! This gives you Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep, Be Kind Rewind (!!!! which hasn't come out yet but I wanna see...) and he's directed bazillions of music videos... mmmkay not bazillions but still rather a lot.

My friend did a study on David Fincher (Panic Room, Fight Club, Se7en, The Game (which I haven't seen but sounds awesome) and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (which isn't out yet but I wanna see so badly!!!!!!!!) except Fight Club and Se7en are R18... Though I own Fight Club so you could borrow that if you want. And he did this study in either 4th or 5th form, so there ya go!

I'll let you know if I come up with anything else.
