Recently the Navy revealed video evidence of an encounter between some of its F/A-18 pilots and an Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (what used to be called a UFO, but renamed to avoid the woo-woo connotations of that term). I remember Jim Macdonald telling us about a couple of the weird things he and his fellow naval crew members saw. In one case, he was on night watch when he saw the phenom, turned to his partner, said, "You saw that, right?" His partner corroborated. But (if I recall right==this was decades ago when he told us) they didn't bother reporting it, as nothing good ever came of that. It was more likely that someone up the chain of command would decide that they had been tippling on the job. And of course there was absolutely no proof of anything, as this was well before video was readily available.

Unfortunately, "shoot the messenger" is a very real thing.

We learned that the hard way at one convention.
