Foods that don't need cooking are also an aid. But it can be monotonous.

If a disaster drags on long enough, appetite fatigue can become a real problem. For people who are accustomed to variety, eating the same thing day in and day out can make the food actively repellent. I've heard of cases of people becoming literally unable to choke it down any more, to the point they'd gag on it and be in danger of starving even as adequate stores remained in their larders.
