Dead in the water

My computer has died. This severely irks me.

*posting from husband's computer*

ETA: He just put the dead hard drive in the FREEZER.

Apparently it can help resurrect fried hard drives for short periods of time. Also, apparently I am one of the few computer-using people out there who was unaware of this trick. :D

That's often recommended. Low temperatures can correct faults (especially those caused by overheating). /computer geek

I'd heard of it, but didn't think about it until you mentioned it. I have a failed HD floating around, but I'd just installed a new OS on it when it failed, so it's not worth freezing as there's nothing worth saving on it.

The freezer does work, I can attest to that! However, I do highly recommend just backing up EVERYTHING and getting a new harddrive as you don't want the same issue to come up again. I picked up a 500gb external drive at Best Buy for this sole purpose.

Yeah, we went out after dinner and got a new hard drive. And putting the borked one in the freezer did let me transfer the stuff I wanted to save over to my D drive.
