[Cassie is sat up in one of the common rooms of Kashtta. It's 2am and she's curled up on one of the sofa with a large mug of tea and a blanket watching one of the many coverages on the television. Across the Atlantic Ocean, the royal wedding is about to take place. Cassie does miss home - so she's not going to miss this. She's excited and it's good ( Read more... )

Princess Beatrice's is just... insane. I'm not sure what that is.

I think I'm just watching it for the hats at this point. Is it a spiral or a squiggly or a spiggly?

Maybe it's all three!

And people pay lots of money for them? Blimey.

[Here, Cassie, have an angel. He's going to appear next to her chair and just stare at the TV for a moment]

Are these people of importance?

[Aaaaand, Cassie is going to try her hardest not to spill her tea everywhere at the sudden angel appearing. She fails, just a little. And now she's just going to look at you in disbelief.]

Of course they are! They're the royal family! Well, the royal family of the UK - that is.

[She points to various people.]

The ones getting married are Prince William and Kate Middleton. William's second in line to the throne. And that's the Queen there, and Prince Phillip - her husband. They're William's grandparents.

[Yep. She's going to point all of them out, Cas. ALL OF THEM. Well, the ones she knows, anyway.]

[tips his head as he watches her point them out]

I don't understand. Why are they important? I thought that the royal family in this generation were more ... figureheads.

... uh oh. starryeyed_cass April 30 2011, 02:18:24 UTC
[She shrugs.]

Well, yeah. But they're still important. I know the Queen can still dissolve parliament if she wants to - so she does have some kind of power.

[She pauses in thought for a few moments.]

But.. people still think of them as important. Even if they are only figureheads. They might not have powers like they did in the past - but they're still descendants of the royal line and stuff. They're our royal family. It's difficult to explain, but yeah. And this marriage is important because it means the line can continue. William's the eldest grandson.

[Cassie grins and shuffles along on the sofa before patting the vacant space for him to sit.]

Besides, it's a wedding! It's exciting!

[Our little socialist is going to grit his teeth and unsuccessfully attempt to keep his opinions to himself.]

The last I heard about Willy he was maybe 17. It's fucking surreal to skip a decade and suddenly he's getting married.

It's a good job they're keeping all those journalists in employment. Because of all that shortage of news.

[Oh, Saul. <3]

Yep! They've been together for years now. I can't believe myself that they're so old now! It makes me feel old!

[Yes, she feels old at twenty three. Shhhh.]

Oh.

[Awkward pause.]

But. The dress is so pretty. And it's so romantic.

I'm not sure how it makes me feel. He was younger than me when I left London, now he's my elder by a year. Of course he isn't even the same fucking bloke, is he? So strange, all this time-travel alternate universe shit still gets to me.

Cassie you could never be old. Your aura of pure youthful bubbly Cassieness shall defy the ages.

...Yeah it's.

[scribble scribble scribble trying not to write an essay and by consequence spoil her fun]

Really princessy. Very fairy-tale appropriate.

Well, he looks like the same bloke to me. Apart from the fact he's... balding. Just a teeny bit. The BBC cameras are doing a wonderful job of letting us know that.

And well... if it makes you feel better - I was just a kid in 1998. And even now you're still older than me!

[She's trying!]

Haha! It will? Brilliant! Although I may need reassurance the day I find a grey hair. Jokes!

[Long pause, she's watching. And watching. And watching.]

Oh, wow. I want to get married right now.

[Sorry, Saul. But she's a right soppy little thing sometimes.]
