She runs through the castle, alarm surging through her.
So many things had happened over the last week, most of which she can’t fathom. And now there is this. She hadn’t expected this at all. And she isn’t sure she could handle any more confusion right now.
Wanting desperately to be proven wrong, she sprints down the cloisters and rushes down a corridor. Out of breath, she finds herself outside the physician’s.
She bangs frantically on his door and waits a few pain-staking moments for an answer. But there is none.
Gerald and Peter must be at the festivities, her mind points out, and after a dithering for a few moments, she decides to open the door.
The door falls open and as she steps through, her gaze is immediately directed to the bed in the room.
And just as she expected, the bed is empty.
