Hey you! What an attractive premise! I've been waiting for someone to do a role reversal kind of story. I think the biggest challenge you'll probably have is Arthur's characterization. At least, that's what came to mind before reading this. I mean, his personality on Merlin has a lot to do with this lineage and authority over others. Without that kind of upbringing, will he still be the same Arthur?

After reading this, however, I don't think you'll have that much difficulty. You've kept him intact 8D Even though it's just a glimpse here of the Merlin/Arthur banter we all know and love, it's a good method to keep Arthur in character. What better way to show his bossiness and regality than by using Merlin as the sidekick.

I like the fact that Arthur knows about Merlin's ability. I'm glad Merlin has someone he can confide in besides Gaius. I especially loved this bit: “Even if I so much as garner her attention, what do I have to offer her? A shack for a house and a pathetic excuse for a blacksmith’s workshop,” Arthur suddenly says

I wish Gwen knew Merlin's secret on the show. Or Morgana. I think it's fun to keep Arthur in the dark for now. Cause if he knew we'd have to deal with him having to wrestle with telling his father or protecting his servant. That's for a later time, I think.

Great concept - I am a sucker for AU's and role-reversal so this is great to read and I have to admit, I love how even though Arthur is poor, he does still have a touch of arrogance about him. It's a really good start. Nice work.
