I just love how you tie everything into music. I really worry sometime about what songs you pick for my life.

Wow, I hadn't even really given that any thought on the musical level. Usually I don't make such connections of song-to-life with people who are outwardly music geeky. :) But I could try. lol.

But I could try.

Seems like a good "project" for you to work on once your single-word project runs out of steam. And I know you like a challenge. ;)

I am not exactly sure how this is relevant to your entry but it seems to be worth noting that Bob Dylan once proclaimed that America's Poet was...

...Smokey Robinson. I wonder how Smokey's songs would fit in the continuum that encompasses Westerberg and Mars.

I read a great article on Mars and he clearly grew up with a lot of Elvis and doo-wop and soul, so I am sure Smokey was in there too. Westerberg has covered Dylan songs and the influence there is fairly obvious so I suspect the dots connect somehow.

Westerberg, from the limited interviews he gives, seems to have no real strong feelings about his own legacy. He is very much like the late Alex Chilton seemed to be: "Yeah, I guess I/we influenced some people but they were just rock and pop songs to me."
