...And Say Hi To Your Mom For Me

I feel so out of the LJ loop. My paid account expired and while I won't be shutting down the journal I am wondering if I am getting my full $25 a year's worth out of it. Still, it might be worth it just to keep all my Get Fuzzy related user pics ( Read more... )

LJ does seem to be at an ebb these days. I know my own writing on here has declined a bit but increasingly it's because the things I take the time to write about get little response (i.e. the concert reviews of late). It takes 2-second to update FB and if no one responds it's no big deal. It takes me a lot longer than that to write an LJ post and hearing crickets does make you wonder if there's any one around reading. If no one reads it...then why write it online? In LJ's glory days there was more interaction and you could truly get to know someone - you and I would not have hung out in Portland had we not met here; in FB I don't think we'd ever have met - but those days seem to be fading. I'm holding on for a comeback.

100% in agreement with the rental suggestion for Pirate Radio. I decided to check it out on my last flight and ended up enjoying it a lot.

I wonder about this LJ thing as well. I'm still writing and posting a bit, but the days of actually getting to know someone through the LJ community in the way that the three of us have gotten to know each other and a few others
seem to be a bit in the past. I've considered making the leap to a site like WordPress but that hasn't happened yet.

I suppose any of us could go onto the "add_me" sites to try to bolster our LJ friends lists but that just isn't my priority right now.

If you, T. and J. ever stop posting to LJ there isn't going to be a whole lot left for me here.

Maybe it's not necessary but I've made a point to comment on entries that I've liked just because I think it's important to let the writers know that their work was read. I assume others feel the same as I do when there's silence and in the absence of a "Like" button, I'll comment to tell them the same.

Friends don't let friends do Wordpress (or something). ;)

I know I always appreciate hearing from people who read my entries. There are a few different ways people can find my blog now (for example there is a link to it in our local paper) and I tracking my hits, etc. with Google Analytics. I know that the blog gets hits, which is great, but since people rarely leave comments I don't really know who's reading and what they think of what they're reading. And maybe there are levels of degree to this, but I agree with you in that I think that anybody who writes in a forum like this wants to have their work read, no matter how much they say "I just write for myself..."

And, at the risk of being too sentimental, I really appreciate the little network that grew around our LJ blogs. It's cool.
