I've lived in the metro DC area for the last 24 years & never felt an earthquake.  Teeny liitle tremors happen from time to time, but I never noticed them ( Read more... )

I've been here but for 3 of the last 40. This was by far the strongest to hit here in my lifetime.

It was a 5.8 and the epicenter was in Mineral VA.

Phone traffic is sporatic. I was able to talk to my mom briefly before the line cut out again.

I am so relieved to see this entry. As soon as I heard where the epicenter was I immediately thought of you and stevemb. We felt it here. I was confused about what it was at first because the last earthquake I felt was more like a wave and only around a 3. I have no cellphone or landline either. I'm glad that's the only damage you had.

Glad you guys are okay. We were evacuated briefly but are back to normal now. akawil got sent home though while they evaluate his building for potential structural damage. He thinks they're just being paranoid, but I don't mind him being somewhere safer.
