Agreed. But no improvements to public policy were ever achieved without 1st envisioning better alternatives.

The question is what those alternatives are. Wishing there were no problems doesn't identify alternatives.

If you mean everyone with a potentially fatal condition should receive public assistance sufficient to prevent death, everyone who is chronically sick should get public money without a time limit, and people should be provided with payment for their conditions in ways which don't tie them to their jobs, then we're talking about policy alternatives. But then it suddenly doesn't sound like an uncontroversial thing no one could object to.

The problem is that the discussion isn't even getting that far and some aren't willing to discuss it at all.

The alternative is what we've got...

The alternative we're stuck with now, madfilkentist, is what we've got. People are tied to jobs they don't want because they get healthcare that way, people die because it costs too much to save them. Our healthcare "system" is neither. It's a hodgepodge and we would do well to look at nations who are good at taking care of their citizens whether they have public or private options that work. Countries such as Spain, New Zealand, the Czech Republic
