'fat' superheroine contest and pictures of real women

This is interesting.

So I was putzing around dreamsformortar's page and saw an entry about a 'Fat' Superheroine Contest which, if you follow that link, you'll see started when an artist was told that the following Batwoman drawing she submitted was too fat to be a superhero:

That is really interesting! I searched by my own height & weight too, and saw enough variation to make me wonder if we're all using the same scales :).

I'm glad I wasn't the only one! I was so confused... and it was weird because their picture seemed like it could make sense with the sizes they listed which is smaller than what I wear but their weight was listed at heavier than me. And I was like, "What woman lists her weight as HEAVIER?" That's what threw me off so much XD

At the same time, it's fun to see all the different body shapes even if we don't have any way of verifying it's accurate lol I think this sort of site could be good for people with body dysmorphic disorder in that if they can see women their size and feel ok with that size or even think they look great, maybe it will help them realize that they probably look great too.

None of those fat superheroines impressed me. I've seen much better art with the same subject and some very cool fat Wonder Women, my fav being this one:

I like my Wonder Woman with pizza slice - the lines are awesome, nicely stylized and indeed she looks happy. It's not about being fat or slim, it's just a cool pic. I am not a fan of comics at all and it vaguely amuses me to see those ridiculously sexualized poses, but it's not something to raise the feminist in me. Mostly I confess I think of the people who masturbate to cartoons and it's one of those things that makes me giggle on the inside.

Yeah I really like the lines and coloring on it. Also the pose is awesome XD

Comic books... I honestly mostly just completely disregard and occasionally am exasperated by the ridiculous poses and body shapes of the women. But since I rarely read comic books I hadn't thought too much about it-- or rather, I thought they worst they did was just make them always super busty and stupidly sexy-sexualized in dumb clothing for their jobs-- but then I saw Escher Girls and realized that they do some REALLY ridiculous things! Like, bodies and poses that couldn't physically exist in reality.

lol well better to be entertained than upset XD
