2 AU R/S fic recs
lol wow this is definitely nostalgic. I just stayed up until 4 am reading fanfics... But it's not my fault! accio_rs_fics has intriguing posts and I follow them to the fics or, sometimes, branch out from there through the authors and-- BAM. Time = gone.
There were two in particular tonight that I loved. Both AU, strangely enough, since I don't normally care for HP AU that isn't "how did this annoyingly tragic thing not happen after all?"
Stalking Sirius by remuslives23
Summary: Reluctant paparazzo, Remus Lupin, manipulates his way into secretive rock star, Sirius Black's, life, hoping for a scoop that will kick start his flagging career. Instead, he finds himself torn between his growing feelings for Sirius, and the article of a lifetime.
I just have to say: I was not sure if I'd like it based on the summary/plot tbh but I decided to give it a shot even though I thought it could potentially be bad. (Only because it would have been easy for someone to go the cliched route) I was wrong! It's hilarious, and sweet, and cute, and about as realistic as you could get in those circumstances. I really loved this. Like, really loved it.
And A Star to Steer Her By by ceredwensirius
Summary: In which James and Sirius are pirates, Lily runs a brothel, Peter is a sailor, and Remus is a lot of things.
I just have to say: This is another one I was really leery about based on the plot/summary. It was written in response to a prompt. I thought it had mass potential of being cliched and bad (because you never know with fics), but I decided to read it anyway. And I'm glad I did! It was really good! My favorite part about it is that the pirates are actually privateers, and some research was done into the way things actually were. There are also cameos of lesser-used characters and it deals with the idea of homosexuality, and acceptance, and acknowledgment. I heart a lot of the choices made in writing this fic, including not making it unnecessarily melodramatic. And although those careers may sound OOC for some of them, I think they were written in a way that made it work.
