Disney is getting rid of the direct-to-dvd sequels.

I am happy about this. There were a few of the sequels that were good, but most were horrible and brought down the value of the company in my opinion.

I am here and now throwing a party with that in mind. That and the fact that they reopened the submarine ride at Disneyland. Woot for that.

I had found very, very few sequels that ever helped Disney's cause.

Sequels to movies less than ten years old tended to be rather good. Sequels to movies OVER 50 YEARS OLD were preposterous. It's like a modern day painter saying he's going to continue one of Picasso's series of paintings for him.

I agree fully with the whole notion of it being preposterous to wait 50 years to make a sequel. Of course, with animation, it'd also be preposterous to do a remake. On the other hand, we did have that whole 101 Dalmations fiasco in '96.

I know someone, Chuck Rappuhn, who was an animator for Disney several years ago. He can tell you: the studio has been choked nearly dry of all hint of creativity ever since "Treasure Planet."
